New licence conditions introduced in April 2009 state that, if you are replacing a Profile Class 5-8 electricity meter, the new meter has to be a smart meter. The same applies to all metered gas consuming over 732 MWh a year. And, you will need to change every single gas and electricity meter you own in these categories by 2014.
