This ONE mistake will cost you from October
Who you choose for your data & meter partner right now will be who takes you through mandatory migration to HH settlement in October.
That means any 3-year or more supply contract put in place now will cover this critical timeframe.
Making that decision based on price, not performance, is a false economy. Like buying cheap shoes – they don’t do the job they are supposed to do, and replacements end up costing more.
The same goes for metering services. With MHHS migration starting in October, it’s more important than ever to buy meters based on quality of service, not the cheapest upfront price.
Here’s why:
If you have a large portfolio of NHH meters, be careful.
Meter Operators (MOP) are not obliged to fix them for 14 months under current rules.
But this timeframe will suddenly need to change under MHHS to have accurate data from them every 5-7 days!
That means a huge risk of more handheld read charges for customers with NHH estates.
So, if you have a MOP who is not currently performing in a timely manner for NHH meters, you’ll be backed into an expensive corner once MHHS migration happens.
Estimated data is expensive for customers
Estimated HH data happens when a data collector cannot remotely access a meter to obtain the actual data. Instead, data will be estimated based on previous periods of use. So any energy efficiency work the customer has done will not be considered in billing.
This ultimately means consumers are charged more for their energy, in addition to any transactional manual read charges.
Risk of surprise costs & more complaints
Without quality HH data from working meters, there will be more estimated bills, more handheld read costs and fewer opportunities for you to procure energy effectively or add value through optimisation.
There will be more queries, maybe even complaints, as businesses see costs go up without being able to budget for them. Not ideal for the consumer, not ideal for you.
Our recommendation: Procure data & metering services based on performance, not price.
- Prioritise data quality
- Choose metering agents who can read all meter types
- Identify poor performing agents
- Target manual read meters now
Stark Data is best with Stark Connect
The only agent who can dial all meter types
Don’t end up splitting a customer’s NHH portfolio over multiple meter operators, creating more work instead of being able to consolidate portfolios with a single provider for a streamlined service.
The only agent qualified for all data, meter & network services under MHHS
Relax and be confident that we can handle all aspects from data collection, metering for AMR and Smart meters, Unmetered supplies and related network roles.
The only agent who puts data quality first
Saving your customers thousands in unecessary costs down the line.
In summary, prioritise quality over cost for long-term wins
Without quality data from working meters, you’ll have estimated bills, more handheld meter read costs and lose out on all the opportunities to reduce costs that proper HH data provides under Market-wide Half Hourly Settlement(MHHS).
Choose a meter agent that performs well rather than the cheapest upfront cost and risk estimated bills and increased charges.
