What is a Gas Meter Asset Manager?

A Gas Meter Asset Manager (MAM) is responsible for the installation and maintenance of a gas meter, similar to a Meter Operator in electricity.

You pay for your Gas MAM through your supply invoice.

So whether you choose your preferred MAM or not, you’re paying for it.

We are setting a new standard – putting you in control of your gas metering and access to daily data.

What is a data logger?

Sometimes referred to as data loggers or AMR – Automatic Meter Reader devices – it is a device which connects to a gas meter’s pulsed output.

The meter’s pulsed output sends information on how much gas passes through the meter.

The logger racks up this information and we collect it daily.

We test new logger devices, so you benefit from the most robust and reliable data loggers.

What's better to choose for gas data: MAM or Loggers

We tend to recommend MAM for gas data as it reduces data disruptions from meter exchanges and unforeseen logger disconnections by 3rd parties.

What is different about Stark's MAM service?

We don’t think it’s acceptable for Meter Asset Managers to only provide data to other industry partners and not the customer.

That’s why we provide daily data to our MAM customers as standard.

Are there fewer data disruptions with Gas MAM Data?

Potentially.

If you choose a logger-only service for your gas data it means we are not in control of the gas meter.

So if there is a meter exchange or other equipment installed on the meter by the meter asset owner, your logger could be disconnected.

It’s just the nature of the industry.

By choosing the Gas MAM option for your gas data you potentially reduce the impact of unforeseen logger disconnections.

If you want to mitigate the risk of data gaps then consider our Meter Asset Manager (MAM) service where we control the meter.

Is Stark MAMCoP approved?

Yes. We are a Gas Meter Asset Manager (MAM) certified under the Meter Asset Managers’ Code of Practice (MAMCoP) which is governed by the Supply Point Administration Agreement (SPAA).

MAMCoP sets out the required duties of MAMs installing gas meters in the UK.
