Background

Stark delivered a comprehensive industrial electrical installation for a prestigious four-unit warehouse development, featuring a state-of-the-art 1mVA dual substation system. The project began in July 2022, when a leading M&E consultant approached us to quote for their ambitious new construction project.

Building on our decade-long partnership, the consultant selected Stark following the scheme’s planning approval. Our scope encompassed the complete electrical infrastructure and 1mVA substation installation for three new buildings, subdivided into four warehouse units.

Construction commenced in January 2024, with Stark delivering power solutions for this best-in-class development.

Challenges and solutions

Our experienced team coordinated closely with the M&E consultant and other stakeholders to ensure all electrical installations met the highest standards. Ensuring clear communication, particularly when facing challenges, is key to a project’s success.

Design evolution

Firstly, we adapted the original termination specifications, upgrading units 1 and 4 from Heavy Duty Cut Out to Moulded Case Circuit Breaker termination.

Despite the subsequent design delays, Stark’s Operations team maintained close contact with the main contractor, keeping them fully up to date with the progress.

Infrastructure coordination

Complex easement negotiations arose due to nearby water infrastructure. Through strategic stakeholder management, we resolved these challenges while maintaining project momentum.

This enabled successful substation installation within the planned programme while concurrent cable laying continued.

Outcome

The project has been successfully completed, with final energisation achieved on 16 July 2024. This marks the full completion of the project and is Stark Infra’s first adopted electric asset. All easement engrossments have been signed, and the UKPN energisation date was confirmed and executed as planned in July 2024.
