Background
Outcomes First Group (OFG) is the leading specialist provider of education in the UK. The organisation exists to give neurodivergent children and young people access to a great education that caters to their specific needs, abilities and aspirations.
With sustainability at its core, Outcomes First Group wanted a reliable solution for their EV chargers to ensure their business remains as green as possible. They partnered with Total Energy Solutions to seek visibility and control over their charging infrastructure to support their expansion of new schools.
The brief
Outcomes First Group faced several challenges with its existing EV charging infrastructure: multiple chargers were installed, but few were functioning effectively. There was no visibility or control over these chargers, and many were plug-and-play models without fee structures.
They aimed to gain full visibility and control over their chargers, ensure reliable reporting, and establish a scalable solution for future installations.
The project
Stark adopted EV chargers at 11 sites (23 sockets) and installed new ones at 14 sites (27 sockets). The project is ongoing, with a phased approach to manage budget constraints and prioritise needs.
Initial phases focused on installing new chargers without DNO works and adopting existing Rolec chargers. Later phases will address more complex installations, including groundwork costs and new connections.
The final phases will expand the charging infrastructure to additional schools and support fleet vehicle electrification, ensuring a comprehensive upgrade of the EV network.

Challenges
One of the key challenges was replacing non-OCPP-compliant chargers. Additionally, managing the capacity at various sites and managing non-half-hourly meters were significant hurdles.
Our comprehensive and coordinated efforts, including managing restrictions at listed heritage sites and locations with limited capacity, were crucial in addressing these issues. This ensured a smooth and efficient rollout of the new and upgraded charging stations.
Outcome
Outcomes First Group now have full visibility into the usage of their chargers, enabling them to consider electrifying their fleet. The phased approach, prioritising needs based on EV uptake and budget constraints, has proven effective. Continued reporting and utilisation support from our team ensures Outcomes First Group have all the data needed to make informed decisions about future rollouts.
