Energy FAQs for NHS & Healthcare

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who owns energy data and how can I get access to the data?

You the consumer own your energy data. You can access it with Stark ID or may need to ask your supplier. It’s important to have easy, on demand access to your data so you can look at it regularly to target waste, spot inefficiencies and many other benefits.

Can I choose Stark as a Data agent without a minimum term contract?

Yes. We offer customer nomination models for both Non-Half Hourly (ahead of switch to MHHS) and Half Hourly data. This allows you to have independent data collection by Stark Data plus access to that data in our online Stark ID energy platform for free. With no minimum term.

Does MHHS mean I need all my meters changed?

No. Only your Traditional aka Dumb meters or any aged meters will need replacement. Any Advanced (AMR) or Smart (SMETS) meters will switch to Half Hourly settlement in the background.

Does MHHS affect sub-metering?

No. MHHS is for fiscal metering only.

What is the impact on electrical supply when meters are exchanged?

For low voltage supplies: If your meter is Whole Current (WC) then a short power shut down is required, usually 45mins-1hour. If the meter is Current Transfer (CT) then you will not need a power down.

Are there any DNO costs associated with meter exchanges?

If you have an existing connection and you are just replacing the meter then no additional DNO costs should be applicable.

If you want a brand new connection, want to move the meter cut out or have a new MPAN, then you would have the DNO or IDNO, like Stark Infra involved to energise that connection, and the relevant costs to do so.

Contact Stark Infra, our IDNO, to discuss what you need.

Who is responsible for getting our preferred MOP/DCDA appointed?

The Supplier appoints the Meter and Data agents.

They will appoint their default agents unless you tell them who else to appoint.

If you want Stark Connect and Stark Data, you must advise them with the list of MPANs to appoint us. We can help you do this, just contact us.

Once we are appointed Data Agent, you will be able to easily check your appointment status of all your agents in Stark ID Data Health.

How do we get a remote data connection if there’s very poor GSM mobile network signal?

Your Meter agent can help with alternative connections if you have poor GSM signal.

It’s important to have remotely-dialled meters so you and your supplier can access your data in a timely manner and to reduce the cost and disruption manual reads can cause.

Is there published data on how well Suppliers are meeting data quality targets?

Elexon is the industry regulator, and its Performance Assurance Board manages this. They publish notifications when Suppliers repeatedly fall behind their milestones.

The best place to keep up to date with performance standards is on Elexon’s monitoring the settlement performance standards page here.
