FAQs

Are you OZEV qualified?

Yes. Stark Charge is an OZEV qualified installer.

Can you help me with my Supply Capacity?

Yes. If you have your main electricity data with Stark already we can use this to assess the capacity you have for EV chargers. If not, then you can provide 12-24 months of Half Hourly data and our team can use this.

What type of charger do I need?

It depends on your use case:

  • Workplace charging: 7kW AC chargers are ideal. Employees typically park for 4-8 hours, giving plenty of time for a charge. Cost-effective, simple to install, and perfect for everyday staff charging.

  • Fleet charging: 7-22kW AC chargers work well for overnight fleet parking. For depot charging with faster turnaround times, consider 22kW AC or 60kW and/or DC rapid chargers, depending on your operational schedule.

  • Public/destination charging: 7-22kW AC chargers suit locations where visitors stay 1-3 hours (retail, leisure, hospitality). For high-turnover forecourt or en-route charging, 60-150kW DC rapid chargers are essential to provide meaningful range in 20-30 minutes. We’ll assess your specific needs during the consultation and recommend the right solution based on dwell times, usage patterns, and your electrical capacity. Our data-driven approach means we can model different scenarios using your actual consumption data.

How does the Charge Point Operation service work?

We provide a fully managed Charge Point Operation service and manage this for you. We can help you manage users, private/public charging timings and tariff set up. We can help advise on the local area and provide suggestions for appropriate charging tariffs.

What make or model of chargers do you install?

We are a hardware agnostic – this means that we always select the right type of charger for each site. We regularly review the market and only work with carefully selected hardware partners, so we can provide you with the best hardware for your requirements.

Are your chargers OCPP compliant?

Yes. We provide Open Charge Point Protocol chargers so you have control over your chargers and are free to switch to another Charge Point Operator if you ever wanted to.

How do you test your installations?

Our team will oversee the testing and commissioning stages to ensure successful completion. Once the charge points are connected, we test the cable and run a live test to ensure that the cabling installation is fault-free.

What happens after the installation?

Once all equipment is installed, commissioned and tested, our team will send all relevant handover documentation. We can also help with training on the Stark Charge Mobile App, How to Charge, Stark ID or any associated processes you need help with.

What data do I get access to?

We provide daily Half Hourly data showing exactly what your EV chargers were doing and when. You can run our special EV separation reports which split out EV charging consumption from regular building consumption. All data is exportable via CSV and PNG formats. You’ll also get all the usage reports and tariff information.

Do I need to have Stark ID to use Stark Charge?

Not at all. We’ll set up your EV chargers in Stark ID and give you unlimited user access for free, even if Stark Charge is the only service you have with us. Of course, if you do have your building data in Stark ID already, you’ll benefit from even more powerful insights, including automatic separation of EV vs building consumption.

Can you help with grid connections and capacity upgrades?

Absolutely. Through Stark Works we can assess your site capacity, manage DNO applications, and deliver grid connection upgrades much faster than traditional providers. If you already have your electricity data with Stark, we can use this to assess the capacity you have for EV chargers.

Can you help with solar and battery storage too?

Absolutely. We accurately size solar PV and battery storage systems that work in harmony with your EV charging. We also offer funding options for these projects. By understanding your actual usage patterns, we can design renewable energy solutions that maximise your returns and reduce your grid dependency, whilst ensuring you have the capacity for your EV charging needs.

How do you manage maintenance?

Our team have remote access to each charger so we can diagnose the majority of faults remotely. We proactively monitor for faults in our back-office system, so many issues are resolved before users even notice. If we cannot resolve a fault remotely, we send an engineer to carry out a reactive maintenance visit.

What payment methods for drivers do you use?

We have a variety of payment methods depending on what you need: Stark Charge Mobile App, RFID cards, Contactless charging are popular options.

Can you adopt my existing chargers?

Yes. If you already have EV chargers installed by another provider, we can adopt them into our managed service. You’ll get the same level of support, data integration with Stark ID, and ongoing optimisation as our new installations.
