Internet connection for electricity meters.
The UK is changing the way we manage our electricity networks so we can reduce costs & rely on renewable energy.
This means that every meter in the UK will record consumption used every 30 minutes, known as Half Hourly data, and energy Suppliers need this information every day.
Without a working communications line to your data collector, you will need to have site visits to manually download the data.
Remotely reading your electricity meters is vital to avoid estimated bills and manual data collection charges.
Most meters rely on mobile networks to do this. But when there is not sufficient mobile phone signal at the meter position, we can use internet connections instead.

What we need.
Install an Internet network socket within 2m of the electricity meter
A CATS data port is installed next to our meter (within 2m please). The port is configured with port 80 open (to allow our router to obtain an IP address via DHCP).
Avoid any issues – provide a photo of any webpage that loads successfully
This helps everyone make sure the socket is working to avoid delays and make sure you’ve got the correct set-up
